Ginger and Lemongrass Tea
This is a delicious aromatic, digestive-enhancing tea that aids in treating a stomachache, nausea, gas, bloating, gastrointestinal cramping, and non-ulcer dyspepsia. Consume 6-8 ounces after a large meal or drink prior to or following meals if you're prone to indigestion.
I recommend preparing the lower dose range, using two tablespoons each of fresh ginger and lemongrass. Increase the dosage to three tablespoons of fresh ginger if you prefer a spicier tea and three tablespoons of fresh lemon grass if you prefer a fruitier blend (or both).
Directions: Prepare a one quart infusion with the following herbs. Steep for 30-60 minutes, strain and serve. Consume 8-10 ounces, up to three times daily.
Note: This blend can also be decocted with a lid, on low for 10-15 minutes; however, it will increase the pungency.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 Tbs. fresh grated ginger (Zingiber officinale)
- 2-3 Tbs. fresh sliced lemongrass or 2 Tbs. dry lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)
- 1 tsp. allspice berries, dry (Pimenta dioica)
- 1/8 - 1/4 licorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra) – omit in cases of high blood pressure or edema or substitute with a pinch of stevia (infusions only).
- Modification: Add a teaspoon of honey as a sweetener if you prefer not to use licorice or stevia.
